What They Say about Con & Dec, The Bachelors.

Dear Con and Dec I would just like to thank both of you for such a great concert last Sunday at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds, my friend and I really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed my little dance with Dec and thank you for the CD which is of course excellent. I am sorry to say that it is many years since I last heard you in concert, in the early 80s I think when we lived in Cheshire and before that back in the late 60s when if my memory serves me right, you were opening a shop in Liverpool, all too long ago! I hope that you both continue in good health, I understand that you were very poorly a while back Con, so all the best for a healthy future. Kind Wishes to you both and if it’s not too early have a lovely Christmas. Julie ====================== Fantastic show in Bury St Edmund's yesterday. My mum and I enjoyed every minute. The Bachelors website has just clicked on a link on the Contact us page,
in order to contact Con and Dec, and had the following to
say/comment/suggest: It was so interesting to see all the website gallery, and family gatherings. Thank you for allowing me to feel so part of it, even though I'm a stranger to you! I was taken to some of your shows
by my aunt when Yours was the most fascinating by far, and made me feel a part of family life I never knew as a child. It touches me to see how you have been blessed by many years of close family life. Thank you for letting me be encouraged by this. My health has deteriorated gradually over the years with arthritis, diabetic on insulin, and continue to have clinical depression now for 28 years, so being encouraged is no mean feat!! My husband and I have been blessed with nearly 38 years of marriage, and he has helped me so much. A big thanks again, and may you continue to be blessed with good things. Sincerely, Maggie Lovell. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

ROBERT ROGERS Great Show, hope Dec`s cough gets better. I must be getting old as I first saw you life at Eastbourne about 30 years old!! Hope you come back to the area again, sadly not at Barking as it would seem it will be closing down in July, still there is always the Queens at Hornchurch. Bought two CD`s, including the Irish one, well I consider myself quite an expert on Irish Music, but I have never heard `The West Awake` before, it is fantastic. I also love the Green Fields of France (My Grandfather fought in the Great War, and although he survived, he lost his hearing because of the Big Guns and would never talk about the war because of the slaughter he saw of both Men and Horses), and I must admit I had heard Davey Arthur sing it live (at Barking) and thought that could not be bettered, but you have managed that. Read about John Stokes on the site, well Victoria is much better looking!! One disappointment on Saturday, no Sound of Silence (well you cannot sing all of your hits or we would have been there all night, no problem for the Audience, but I think Dec might not have made it, especially if you make him dance anymore)! Thanks again,Robert ----Original Message----- From: bstobytwirl04@gmail.com [mailto:bstobytwirl04@gmail.com] To: con@mistral.co.uk Subject: Feedback from the Con and Dec The Bachelors Website A user browsing through Con and Dec The Bachelors website has just clicked on a link on the Contact us page, in order to contact Con and Dec, and had the following to say/comment/suggest: Hi Con, how the hell are you both after all these years, I just wanted to thank you both again for giving me one of the greatest highlights of my FORTY years ‘on the boards’, I’m sure you won’t remember me, but around 1991 at Butlin’s Southcoast World, you were finishing off that particular tour at the Manhattan showbar in Bognor, I was the dj/compere and at the end of your brill performance, you personally asked me from the stage, what my favourite Bachelor’s song was, I responded ‘I Wouldn’t Trade You For The World’and to my complete shock, you said, quote, well why don’t you come up here and sing it ‘WITH US’ unquote, BLOODY NORAH! I thought, and I did just that and believe me boys, it was one of the greatest honours bestowed upon me, I will NEVER forget that time! So as you can see, I was a Bachelor too! For one night only. I remember saying to a ‘blonde’ lady in your entourage, Hell, how did I do? and she replied, that I was too loud, was she serious? what a lovely lady! Once again, to two of the GREATEST guys I have ever worked with, Thank you both SO MUCH! I will ALWAYS carry ALL my respect to you both, I hope that you are STILL wowing your audiences and will continue to do so, for many years to come, Best wishes and fondest regards... Bryan S (ex Manhattan Showbar). ----Original Message----- From: Sean De Cleir [mailto:seandecleir@eircom.net] To: con@mistral.co.uk Subject: Hi Con, Congratulations on a superb show in NCH last Thursday. I was sorry not to be able to wait and meet ye after the show, but I was under pressure to make another appointment and had to run. I spoke to Bert Cotter at the interval. Congrats to Dec and Vicky also for a super evening. It brought back many happy memories for me of years gone by. I remember ye were performing in the Pavilion (I think) in Dundalk and Noel and myself and a gang from Inchicore travelled up to see ye. The hall was packed and warm and I collapsed in the crowd and the Inchicore gang had to carry me out on their shoulders. They thought I had swooned like the kids were doing at Beatle Shows, but the truth was I was coming down with the flu! On Thursday it was pity ye di0 not get to sing Gortnamona as you do a terrific interpretation of that one. Incidentally years ago on a compilation album you did "Low the Valley and High the Mountain" to the tune of Kerry Dances. To me it was a great number and actually at weddings of nieces and nephews I get to sing it (Not as good as The Bachelors), but it suits the occasion. Anyway, Con, it was great to see you and Dec back on the auld sod bringing the house down still after all those years. Delighted to see you are both well and as talented as ye ever were. Best regards. Sean Clear |
-----Original Message----- From: Toni & Stephen Downs [mailto:handsdownprod@optonline.net] To: con@mistral.co.uk Subject: Bogus Bachelors Hi Con, I am not reporting to reporting bogus Bachelors; I happened to stumble on the webpage "JohnStokesTheTruth" while doing research for a book my wife Toni and I are writing on another infamous trial. It was very interesting reading the preamble bio on you and Dec, especially the cold winter of your discontent. I shared many of those lean meals with you -- although I remember them as curried rice and sausages heisted from a machine. I also remember that cold morning when you were in bed keeping warm with newspapers between the covers when the phone rang and someone from the Melody Maker told you that your single had entered the charts. Anyway, I hope you are well and happy. My memories of you are fond ones and I posted photos of us on our webpage. Good wishes, Stephen Downs aka Steve Perry >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Just to let you know thoroughly enjoyed the show on Thursday last -- I don't need to tell you that the entire audience did also! Any time I have been at the Concert Hall recently, I have never seen it fully booked until your show -- it takes the 'grey brigade' to turn out for something worth attending!! You never told me about that lovely daughter! She is a stunner, and also has a fabulous voice -- she must be related to you two somehow!!! Please tell me her name, as she will repay watching in the future! My only complaint was that you did not sing the Unicorn song, but now I have it on the CD so I can listen at home, though not quite the same thing. I was hoping to have a chat with you, but there were so many people looking for autographs that all I could do was join the queue. Nice that we got a snatch of the harmonica in memory of old times. Once again, congratulations, and thanks for a first class show -- my feet were twitching under mu seat when you did the Twist, and if I had been near the aisle I would have joined in!! All the best, Mabel Gargan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Con, Thank YOU and please pass on my thanks to Dec, Victoria and your crew for putting on a fantastic show last Friday evening. Many who were there have come in to the Centre over the weekend to tell me what a great night it was and todays Over 50's Club is buzzing! It was a pleasure and honour meeting you, Regards, Steve >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> -----Original Message----- To: con@mistral.co.uk Subject: Bogus Bachelors Hi We have just spent three days at a Warners Hotel - NIDD HALL - in Yorkshire, 200 miles from where we live, which we had booked especially because we had thought that we would be seeing The Bachelors as we knew them in the '60's and onwards (but older, of course) - i.e. Con and Dec especially, plus John Stokes. We did, at the time, wonder why the show was advertised as John Stokes Bachelors but didn't think too much about it. We soon found out why!! As soon as they came on stage we recognised John Stokes straight away (much older, of course, and with white hair) but we also could immediately see that the lead singer in the middle of the trio was definitely not an older Con Cluskey; and the little guy on the right playing the other guitar was definitely not an older Dec! We enjoyed the show because, after all, they were playing all the great Bachelors songs and the lead singer did have a good voice but we, nevertheless, felt cheated as we were not seeing Con and Dec, who really are the Bachelors. We chose, for that reason, to not buy any CD's or DVD's after the show. Our dining neighbour, though, over breakfast, told us that she had purchased both, having not realised that the lead singer was not Con. When we told her what we had read on your website after the show, she expressed her annoyance, felt she too had been cheated, and wished she hadn't purchased the discs.Hopefully we will see the real Bachelors before too long; until then, Regards to you both Val and Derek Phipps -----Original Message----- To: con@mistral.co.uk Subject: enjoyed your concert Hi Con & Dec, Hope you and your Families are well enjoyed meeting you at the asturias venue in costa blanca,i will treasure the photo for ever,im now back in bridlington waiting for the sunshine .ive still got your autograph from the 1960s when my late parents would travel all over to the english seaside resorts to see you in the theatres, even in my then home town in west yorkshire we were close to the batley variety club.i do hope you perform at the spa in bridlington or even scarbourgh.if not will have to play my cd of your music.ive sent the photo to yours magazine the current issue of meeting place they have published it. Brothers Dec & Con Cluskey make up the BACHELORS, these guys had 18 hit records in the UK charts throughout the 60's and sold millions of records around the world. In 1964, the Bachelors had more records in the top ten than the Beatles. An absolutely brilliant show from start to finish ! Regards Alan Date: 09/17/08 22:43:07 To: con@mistral.co.uk Subject: Bogus Bachelors.. Dear Con and Dec, How I so wish I`d done my homework before booking to see who we thought were going to be yourselves last night in Blackpool. As a birthday surprise for my mum I booked us a night in a hotel (we drove up from Leicestershire during the day) and were so excited at the prospect of seeing you both again. I`d even managed to get second row seats (now I know why!!) and when we realised we`d been duped we were in tears. At the interval we decided not to sit through anymore of the poor imitation of our idols and left the theatre with quite a few other clearly upset fans. We met you many years ago in our home town of Loughborough at the Town hall where you kindly spent time with us after a fantastic performance. Please let me know if you have any performance dates planned in the UK, mum is now in her seventies and I`d love for her to see you just one more time. God bless you and your families, Ms Tina Cooper and mum Janet. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> To: con@mistral.co.uk; bachelors.condec@mistral.co.uk Subject: Feedback from the Con and Dec The Bachelors Website
A user browsing through Con and Dec The Bachelors website has just clicked on a link on the Contact us page, in order to contact Con and Dec, and had the following to say: Hi to you both! I am a forty-something lawyer living in Oxford and the other day on a Radio 2 quiz I heard ‘The Bachelors’ being mentioned. It immediately took me back to my childhood when I was completely mad about your Group. So I have now dug out my old LPs, purchased some new CDs and bought myself a ‘record player’ (how I’ve missed having one of these!) and am once again enjoying your music. I have also now introduced your sound to my four children! I was a huge fan as a youngster, owning many of your World of… and Best of…LPs which I listened to constantly, poring over the album covers (as you do when you’re young). I even used to dream about meeting you one day and being asked to join your Group! And then one day when I was about 16, I was walking with my family in Brighton (I think it was) and suddenly I realized that the guys walking towards me were you both! It brought all those memories flooding back but I’m sad to say I never said a word as you passed (being too British!). Well, I am writing now just to thank you for all the great music you brought into my life, particularly as a child. I have very fond memories of sitting on my Grandma’s knee and singing ‘Cecilia’ to her (her favourite as she was called Cicely) and your versions of ‘Well Respected Man’ and ‘Elusive Butterfly’ have always been absolute favourites of mine. In fact, because I heard your versions of many songs you have done before hearing other artists’ versions, your versions will always to me be the versions. So there you are! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I wish you all the very best and hope one day to catch you live. All best wishes
